Larger Battery Offers Up To 591km Of WLTP1 Driving Range Depending On Variant
Toyota’s upgraded bZ4X battery-electric SUV is now on sale in Australia priced from $55,990 plus on-road costs2, offering Toyota BEV customers improved driving range, increased performance and additional safety and convenience features.
The bZ4X lineup continues to be offered with the choice of front- or all-wheel drive powertrains, with both output and driving range improved thanks to the fitment of a new 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery and more potent electric motors.
Toyota will further expand its BEV offering in the second quarter of 2026 with the arrival of the new bZ4X Touring which will provide even greater powertrain output along with additional rear storage, perfect for customers requiring larger cargo volume and versatility.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the upgraded bZ4X range offered incredible value for customers.
“Toyota is committed to delivering the best value possible to our customers and bringing them better product solutions as achieved in this new upgraded bZ4X model range,” Mr Hanley said. Better specification, greater driving range and the latest safety features are all upgrades which will be welcomed by customers.
“The Toyota bZ4X is a fantastic vehicle and a crucial part of Toyota’s multi-pathway approach in Australia. Since its introduction in early 2024, we’ve seen major shifts in the Australian automotive landscape – most notably the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) introduced in 2025.
“At Toyota, we take a portfolio approach to NVES. As a leader in hybrid technology, we aim to remain self-sustainable while ensuring our electrified and internal combustion vehicle portfolios complement each other.”
In addition to the front-wheel drive model, the bZ4X is also available in AWD guise priced from $67,990 plus on-road costs2, and gains a considerable 92kW lift in power output to a combined 252kW.
Both grades benefit from a larger 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery, paired on 2WD grades with a more powerful front-mounted electric motor generator producing 165kW of power and 268.6Nm of torque.
The upgraded battery offers improved energy density with an increased number of cells, which helps contribute to a greatly increased 2WD driving range of 591km1 on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle.
Charging performance has also been improved, with 22kW three-phase AC charging system now standard on Australian models, which can charge the battery from 10 per cent to full in as little as 3.5 hours when connected to a 32A, 3-phase power supply.
With 150kW DC charging, the bZ4X can be charged from 10-80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.3
Engineers have optimised the performance of the eAxle integrated inverter, motor and transaxle, helping to reduce power losses and weight while enhancing output.
Paddle shifters have been added to the steering wheel, which are used to program four different levels of regenerative braking strength to suit the driver’s preferences.
Along with the powertrain upgrades, the bZ4X lineup has received multiple upgrades with 2WD models gaining newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels with two-tone aero covers, roof rails, puddle lamps, headlamp cleaners and gloss black wheel arches.
Additional comfort and technology features have been included as standard, including a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, two front wireless smartphone chargers4, heated steering wheel, nanoeX cabin air ionisation, a powered tailgate with kick sensor, and a 1500W inverter in the luggage area which can be used to remotely power smaller appliances.
Safety equipment has also been expanded with the addition of blind spot monitor with safe exit assist, rear cross-traffic alert, driver monitor camera, panoramic view monitor and an additional driver’s knee airbag, bringing the total number of airbags to eight.5
AWD grades add a second electric motor generator on the rear axle, that has also been uprated to now produce 87kW/168.8Nm for a potent combined output of 252kW/438Nm.
The AWD’s enhanced output helps to double braked towing capacity to 1500kg6, while WLTP range also increases significantly compared to the outgoing bZ4X at 517km7.
AWD grades also feature the X-Mode off-road traction control system, downhill assist control and vehicle stability control.5
New features for the bZ4X AWD include new-look, aerodynamically enhanced 20-inch alloy wheels, memory and reverse tilt function for the heated exterior mirrors, eight-way adjustable front seats, digital rearview mirror and radiant front-seat heating, which uses a set of infrared panels installed in front of the front occupant’s legs to only heat solid objects in the panels’ line of sight.
Customers gain further value via the Toyota Go loyalty program, with new private buyers able to pair their bZ4X SUV with either a complimentary 7kW home charger (not including installation), or a free voucher via the Chargefox public charging network.8
Valid for private purchases to the end of 2026, the voucher provides up to one year or 625kWh (whichever comes first) of free charging at more than 2000 public charging stations across the country9, while the 7kW Jet Charge wall charger provides approximately three times faster charging than a standard 3-pin charging cable, and can be upgraded by the customer to a 22kW unit with the customer paying the difference.10
Private customers choosing to finance their bZ4X purchase through Toyota Finance Australia via either a consumer or Guaranteed Future Value loan are also entitled to a limited-time deposit contribution of $5000 for 2WD grades or $7500 for AWD, providing even greater value.
Five exterior colours are available on the new bZ4X range, consisting of standard Eclipse Black and optional Frosted White, Liquid Mercury, Feverish Red and Saturn Blue, paired on 2WD with black synthetic leather and fabric upholstery, or the choice of black or grey synthetic leather on AWD.11
AWD customers can also choose a two-tone paint colour scheme for the four optional colours, matched with a black roof.11

NEW TOYOTA HILUX RANGE LANDS IN AUSTRALIA WITH MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS AND LOCALLY DEVELOPED DESIGN
Toyota has launched its new-generation HiLux range in Australia boasting improved driveability, greatly enhanced interior technology and comfort, and an exterior design spearheaded by Toyota Design Australia.
Available in an extensive lineup of cab-chassis or pick-up configurations, 4X4 or 4X2 drivelines, and single, extra and double-cab body styles, the new HiLux range is priced from $33,9901 for the 4X2 WorkMate single cab-chassis manual.
The entire HiLux range benefits from an extensive range of upgrades including new electric power steering, enhanced active safety technology, latest-generation multimedia system and the standard fitment of Toyota’s powerful and reliable 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine on all grades.
The turbo-diesel HiLux will be joined by a battery-electric version in 2026, aimed at fleet, mining and business buyers wanting an electric vehicle that still retains the functionality and performance of a ute.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the new HiLux would continue to deliver what customers want from their ute, with a uniquely Australian flair.
“Australian HiLux customers demand a lot from their vehicle, whether it’s tackling harsh outback terrain in extreme temperatures, or hauling a tray full of tools around suburbia day in, day out,” Mr Hanley said.
“This new-generation HiLux retains its legendary reliability, durability and class-leading off-road capability while delivering vastly improved comfort, functionality and advanced technology.
“Its bold, contemporary exterior design, led by our local design team in Australia, along with the extensive testing and evaluation carried out here, make it the most Australian HiLux yet.
“Adding a BEV variant to the HiLux range in 2026 will be a boon for businesses looking to reduce the carbon footprint of their light-commercial vehicle fleet, and showcases Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to electrification,” he said.
The new HiLux is offered in five different model grades, consisting of WorkMate, SR, SR5 and the on- and off-road Rogue and Rugged X flagships.
WorkMate and SR grades are offered with the choice of 4X2 or 4X4 drivelines, with the rest of the range being 4X4 only.
All variants are powered by Toyota’s 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing a maximum 150kW of power and either 420Nm of torque when teamed with the six-speed manual gearbox or 500Nm with the six-speed automatic transmission.
Select double-cab automatic grades also offer 48-volt V-Active technology, providing smooth stop-start functionality, additional acceleration boost, and improved fuel economy.
The entry-level WorkMate grade is available in rear-wheel drive as a single cab-chassis or double-cab pick-up, while WorkMate 4X4 variants can be had as a single cab-chassis, double-cab pick-up or double-cab chassis.
The WorkMate is identified from the outside by 17-inch steel wheels, manual levelling LED headlamps, body-coloured front bumper and grille, electric exterior mirrors, sharkfin antenna and is available in four exterior paint colours2.
Front and rear mud guards, four tie-down hooks and a tailgate damper with lift assist is added for double-cab pick-up body styles.
Interior features on WorkMate include manually adjustable front seats, fabric upholstery, urethane steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, power windows, manual air conditioning, a manual parking brake and all-weather floor mats.
A new multimedia system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen is now standard across the HiLux range, offering wireless Apple CarPlay®3 and Android Auto™4 compatibility, DAB+ digital radio5, embedded satellite navigation6, and natural voice recognition.
All new HiLux variants now also feature a digital instrument cluster with a 7.0-inch display for WorkMate, along with two USB-C ports, a 12V accessory port and on single-cab grades, a two-speaker audio system. Double-cab variants add a second 12V port in the rear and a four-speaker audio system.
Safety has been improved across the board with all grades benefiting from the latest generation Toyota Safety Sense active safety technologies with enhanced functionality.
These include the autonomous emergency braking pre-collision safety system, active cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert and lane trace assist, road sign assist and blind spot monitor.7
All HiLux grades also benefit from expanded Toyota Connected Services functionality, with a range of safety, security, comfort and convenience features.8
Features which remain complimentary for the life of the 4G network, include SOS Emergency Call9, Automatic Collision Notification10 and Vehicle Insights, the latter of which are remotely accessible through the myToyota Connect app.
A one-year complimentary trial to Toyota Connect+ and Toyota Multimedia Connect Packages are also included, which are available as paid services following the trial period.
These include an uplifted Multimedia system, offering Connected Navigation and Voice – alongside a suite of remote commands to provide added convenience and control. Supported features vary across the range.11
Stepping up from WorkMate is the SR grade, available in 4X2 guise as a double-cab pick-up or as a 4X4 with double-cab pick-up or cab-chassis body styles, as well as the sole extra cab-chassis variant in the range.
The SR is differentiated on the outside by 17-inch alloy wheels, silver painted lower front bumper, black painted door handles, side mirrors and hood moulding, LED front fog lamps, side steps, locking rear tailgate (pick-up only) and the choice of six exterior colours2. Owners of double cab automatic versions can also choose to change their 17-inch alloy wheels to steel wheels if they prefer.
Inside, the SR adds greater front-seat bolstering and high-grade fabric upholstery, leather-accented shift knob and steering wheel, a 300W inverter, smart entry and start, wireless smartphone charger12 and an eight-speaker audio system.
Extra safety equipment on SR includes tyre pressure monitoring and a panoramic view monitor7, while 4×4 automatic grades bring additional off-road capability with a locking rear differential, Multi Terrain Select and downhill assist control. SR customers are also able to remotely lock and unlock their vehicle through the myToyota Connect app13.
The HiLux SR also offers V-Active technology on the automatic double-cab pick-up version, with the 48-volt system employing an 8.5kW/65Nm electric motor generator, lithium-ion battery and DC/DC converter to enable smoother stop-start functionality while also providing improved driving feel when accelerating from standstill.
Above the SR sits the SR5, available exclusively as a double-cab 4×4.
While the WorkMate and SR grades retain a heavy-duty suspension tune designed for carrying loads or towing, the SR5 and above grades feature a new comfort-oriented rear leaf suspension tune which is designed to provide a more supple ride quality when unladen, while still retaining the towing and load-carrying ability of the rest of the range.
Available as a manual pick-up or V-Active automatic with pick-up or cab-chassis options, the SR5 gains 18-inch alloy wheels with larger front brakes and ventilated rear disc brakes, integrated towbar, high-grade auto-leveling LED headlights, LED tail-lights and rear fog lamp (pick-up only), sports bar with 20kg load capacity, privacy glass, auto retracting and heated exterior mirrors and seven exterior paint choices2.
Inside, the SR5 adds a significant number of comfort and technology upgrades with dual-zone automatic climate control, cooled glove box, heated front seats and steering wheel, a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, electro-chromatic rearview mirror, and an electric park brake.
Further safety features include emergency driving stop system (automatic only) and Multi-Terrain Monitor (pick-up only), which offers a comprehensive range of views of the vehicle’s surroundings when off-roading.7
For V-Active-powered SR5 grades, customers can also remotely activate their air-conditioning though Toyota Connected Services.13
SR5 customers wanting additional premium features can option the Premium Interior package for an additional $2500, which adds black leather-accented upholstery, eight-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support and a nine-speaker JBL®14 premium audio system.
The dual flagships of the new HiLux range start with the luxurious Rogue, which builds on the specification of the SR5 plus Premium Interior and adds its own 18-inch matte black alloy wheels, blacked-out TOYOTA tailgate badging, unique sports bar and front bumper, marine-grade carpet bedliner with an electric roller cover, deck rail with two sliding tie-down points, 12V tub socket, central locking tailgate, mineral coloured upholstery and a standard towing package including a tongue and ball, trailer wiring harness and electronic brake controller.
The reintroduced Rugged X is the off-road hero of the new HiLux range, and building on the SR5 with Premium Interior adds features including matte black 18-inch alloy wheels, hoopless bullbar and bash plate, front and rear recovery points painted in Eureka Gold, LED light bar, decal package, sports bar with molle panel, bezel, towing package, bedliner and mineral upholstery finish.
Up to seven exterior colour choices are available across the new HiLux range including the newly introduced Ash Slate and Sunglow, joining the existing Glacier White, Frosted White, Stunning Silver, Eclipse Black and Feverish Red.2

TGR W2RC Newcomer Toby Price Joins Navigator Armand Monleón For 2026 Season
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing W2RC (TGR W2RC) will kick off its FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) title defence with updated crews and all-new, stronger DKR GR HiLux – with bodywork designed by Toyota Design Australia – for the 2026 Dakar Rally.
TGR W2RC has won four consecutive manufacturers’ World Championships, and three driver’s World Championship titles, most recently this year with Lucas Moraes. This success emphasises the strength of the DKR GR HiLux vehicles – based on the iconic Toyota HiLux pick-up – and the performance of its drivers, navigators and team members.
The 2026 season begins with the legendary Dakar Rally, held on 3-17 January in Saudi Arabia, where TGR W2RC aims to challenge for its fourth victory following wins in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
To tackle a fiercely competitive field of multiple manufacturers, TGR W2RC has refreshed its line-up and unveiled the all-new DKR GR HiLux, created through a collaboration between Toyota Design Australia at the Centre of Excellence in Altona, Victoria, and the race team overseas.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the styling work done by Toyota Design Australia on the new DKR GR HiLux showcased the ingenuity and expertise available in our local market.
“The all-new DKR GR Hilux represents the very best of Toyota’s engineering and determination to push boundaries,” Mr Hanley said. “And the bodywork was designed right here in Melbourne by Toyota Design Australia.
“We can’t wait to see our team take on the world’s toughest rally and showcase what Toyota stands for – quality, durability and reliability.”
The Australian connection to the all-new DKR GR HiLux doesn’t stop at its design, with New South Wales-born Toby Price making his TGR W2RC debut in January’s Dakar Rally.
Price is a two-time winner of the Dakar Rally in the Motorcycles category (2016, 2019) and competed on four wheels for the first time in 2025 in a privately entered Toyota HiLux. He will compete alongside navigator Armand Monleón, who helped Lucas Moraes win the 2025 drivers’ title for TGR W2RC.
South Africans Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings challenged for the World Championship last season, winning a W2RC event for the first time on their way to third in the drivers’ and navigators’ standings. They will drive the #202 DKR GR HiLux at the Dakar Rally, aiming to go one better than their superb second place in the last edition.
American rising rally-raid star Seth Quintero demonstrated the performance and mindset required during his rookie season with TGR W2RC, earning his first stage win as well as an overall top-10 finish at the 2025 Dakar Rally. In 2026, he will drive the #203 DKR GR HiLux alongside navigator and fellow American Andrew Short.
The three talented and determined crews will have an all-new DKR GR HiLux at their disposal in Saudi Arabia. Developed by Toyota’s partner Overdrive with input from engineers Christian Loriaux and Glyn Hall, the brains behind the outgoing DKR GR HiLux, the car will initially be run by the TGR W2RC team, before it is made available to private teams in the second half of 2026.
It features a new tubular chassis for increased torsional stiffness and reduced weight, as well as improved serviceability, a crucial aspect for events like the Dakar Rally, where fast maintenance can be decisive.
The new DKR GR HiLux also includes a reinforced transmission, developed to handle extreme loads and contribute to a faster and tougher vehicle. It is undergoing a comprehensive testing program to prepare it for the punishing demands of the Dakar Rally, the longest event of the season at 15 days and around 5,000 km of timed stages and 2,500km of liaisons.
The 2026 Dakar Rally starts and finishes in the Red Sea port of Yanbu and features an extensive loop through challenging desert terrain and sand dunes across central Saudi Arabia, with only one rest day planned, in the capital Riyadh. The rally includes two marathon stages; back-to-back stages over two days with no external assistance or support, meaning crews sleep alongside their vehicles in standard-issue tents and subsist on ration packs for meals.
The Dakar Rally kicks off a five-event 2026 W2RC season which features further events in Portugal (12-22 March), Argentina (24-29 May), Morocco (28 September – 3 October) and Abu Dhabi (22-27 November).

Oliver Wickham crowned 2025 TGRA GR CUP champion following consistently strong season.
The 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) GR CUP season has come to a close following the final round of racing at the Sandown 500 in Melbourne, with 16-year-old Oliver Wickham winning the championship in his first year of GR CUP racing.
Wickham, who was only 15 at the start of the season, was a model of consistency across all five rounds, placing in the top 10 in every race except the final one, where he was only required to finish to guarantee a win.
Wickham finished with 1036 points for the season, 82 points clear of second-placed Lincoln Taylor who won four races across the year, while third place went to Jett Murray who also placed consistently all season.
Wickham entered the final round with a comfortable lead over Murray and Jordan Freestone, and his signature consistency saw him walk away $50,000 richer, while Taylor and Murray pocketed $30,000 and $15,000 respectively for their efforts.
Following the final round, drivers, teams, families and friends gathered for the annual TGRA GR CUP Awards Dinner and unsurprisingly, Wickham also won the award for Best First-Year Driver.
The Kaizen Award, presented to the driver who showed continuous improvement over the course of the year, was awarded to Kade Davey, who was also commended for his eagerness to learn, support for his teammates and the respect with which he treated everyone.
Best presented team went to Lachlan Evennett and Lachlan Evennett Racing for their conduct as a team and excellent design and livery, while the Publicity Award went to Harry Tomkins for his entertaining social media presence and racing series promotion.
The final round of the year began with a bang for Lincoln Taylor, who jumped off the line and fought an exciting battle with guest driver Zach Bates before crossing the line for the race win under safety car conditions, ahead of Bates and Lachlan Gibbons.
Second race of the weekend saw a continuation of Pip Casabene’s red-hot late-season form, who won his first race of the year in the previous round on the Gold Coast with a gripping battle against Taylor.
At Sandown, fans were again treated to an intense battle, with Casabene coming out on top after a contentious moment on the final corner which saw him run off the road but recover and hang on to the win ahead of Taylor while Wickham rounded out the podium.
For the third and final race of the round, the heavens opened up as the race began, leading to slippery and tight-fought racing. A big collision between Hugo Simpson and Pip Casabene ended the weekend early for both racers, with Joshua Anderson best navigating the conditions to record his first TGRA GR CUP victory.
Needing only to finish to secure the championship, Wickham drove conservatively and crossed the line in 18th to secure his title.
Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer Vin Naidoo said all of the TGRA GR CUP competitors should be proud of their efforts in making the category one of the most exciting in Australian motorsport.
“First of all, I’d like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to all of this season’s winners – the dedication of the TGRA GR CUP drivers and teams makes this a special category in the Australian racing scene,” Mr Naidoo said.
“It has been wonderful to watch some of the country’s most talented young racers use the TGRA GR CUP to further their careers in motorsport, and on behalf of Toyota Australia I can’t wait for the 2026 season.”
The 2026 season calendar has been confirmed, with another five-round season set to showcase the GR86 racecars on some of Australia’s most iconic racing circuits.
The season will kick off in February as part of the Sydney 500, before making the rounds to Townsville, Ipswich, Bathurst and Melbourne.

A large-capacity 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides ample EV-only driving range for shorter trips and supports both 50kW DC charging and 11kW three-phase AC charging.
Hybrid RAV4 grades employ Toyota’s sophisticated fifth-generation 2.5-litre series-parallel hybrid system offering seamless operation and excellent fuel efficiency, with peak combined output of 143kW for both 2WD and AWD powertrains.
The new RAV4 range will be offered with a total of 10 single-tone and four two-tone paint options depending on grade, while Cruiser variants will have the option of a Neutral Beige interior colour scheme alongside the black offered on the rest of the range.10

Battery-electric Toyota C-HR SUV expected to arrive in Australia mid-2027
Toyota will broaden its battery-electric vehicle (BEV) offering in Australia with the arrival of the all-new C-HR BEV mid-2027, with the stylish compact SUV now set to sit alongside the bZ4X and bZ4X Touring in Toyota’s BEV line-up.
The all-electric C-HR has been built from the ground up as a dedicated BEV, offering customers strong driving range, practical charging solutions and the sophisticated styling for which the C-HR has become known.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the all-electric C-HR represented the next step in Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to electrification.
“Toyota is dedicated to offering its customers the right powertrain choice for the right time and application, and the all-electric C-HR will be perfect for customers looking for a stylish urban SUV with high levels of technology and serene yet engaging driving characteristics,” Mr Hanley said.
“Combined with the arrival of Toyota’s first plug-in hybrid powertrain in the all-new RAV4 next year, Toyota will continue to offer a range of powertrains to suit customers with varying lifestyles and requirements.”
Despite sharing its nameplate with the hybrid C-HR, the all-new C-HR features its own unique architecture, having been built on the same e-TNGA dedicated electric vehicle platform which underpins the larger bZ4X.
Australian examples of the all-electric C-HR will feature a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor developing 165kW of power and 269Nm of torque.
Battery pre-conditioning technology contributes to a targeted DC fast charging time from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes regardless of weather conditions1, along with a targeted driving range of over 500km2. AC charging up to 22kW allows for easy overnight charging at home.
The all-electric C-HR retains the engaging driving characteristics of its hybrid counterpart with a unique suspension and electric power steering tune which provide an ideal blend of responsiveness and ride comfort.
Four levels of regenerative braking can be set using the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to dial in the ideal amount of coasting deceleration, while extensive noise insulating materials have been placed around the cabin to further bolster the inherent quietness of a BEV.
The all-electric C-HR features an evolved exterior design based on the stylish Toyota Hammerhead concept, with a slimmer LED headlight design and multiple aerodynamically enhanced design touches which help reduce drag coefficient to a slippery 0.26Cd.
The larger exterior dimensions and wheelbase of the electric C-HR translate to increased overall interior space, with 900mm of couple distance, generous headroom and 416 litres of overall cargo volume.
High levels of technology will be available regardless of variant with a 14.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system offering wireless Apple CarPlay®3 and Android Auto™4 compatibility, natural voice recognition, Toyota Connected Services5 functionality and a full suite of Toyota Safety Sense active safety technologies6.
Further details on the all-new battery-electric C-HR including pricing and grade specification will be revealed closer to its expected Australian arrival mid-2027.

Toyota Australia-led exterior design and extensive local development and testing makes new HiLux the most Australian ever!
Toyota has unveiled its much-anticipated new HiLux, with a bold new exterior design led by Toyota Australia, significant improvements to driveability and comfort, and a new interior with a significant uplift in multimedia and safety technologies.
Along with the trusted capability of diesel power, the new HiLux will also be the first to be offered with a battery-electric powertrain, largely aimed at fleet customers, as part of Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to decarbonisation.
Furthermore, Toyota has confirmed that a hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) variant is scheduled to join the lineup in 2028. The new option is aimed to offer customers even greater choice while reinforcing Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to decarbonisation.
The new HiLux is set to launch in Australia in December 2025 and has been comprehensively updated with valuable improvements across the board, while continuing to embody the Toyota quality, durability and reliability (QDR) for which the HiLux is renowned for.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the new HiLux would continue the iconic story of the rugged pick-up in Australia.
“Generations of Australians have counted on their HiLux to deliver hundreds of thousands of kilometres worth of reliable performance through the toughest conditions our country has to offer,” Mr Hanley said.
“Whether going to the job site or the camp site, the HiLux has always been known as an extremely dependable and capable vehicle, which is reflected in its enduring popularity with customers.
“The new HiLux delivers a wide range of improvements to on and off-road driveability, safety and comfort, along with a new interior design and features, and new exterior design, which we are proud to say was developed right here in Australia.
“Furthermore, the introduction of the first-ever HiLux BEV reinforces Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to decarbonisation, which is an exciting step forward for fleets and businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
“The inclusion of an FCEV variant in 2028 reinforces this multi-pathway approach, and is the result of Toyota’s commitment to hydrogen fuel-cell electric technology.”
Toyota will offer the new HiLux with a choice of 21 different diesel variants in single, extra and double cab configurations, 4X2 or 4X4 drivelines, manual or automatic transmissions, and WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rogue and new Rugged X grades.
The new Rugged X variant offers improved off-road capability with the standard fitment of a range of specifications designed for protection and recovery in off-road terrain.
The bold new exterior design of the HiLux was spearheaded by the Toyota Australia design team, based at Toyota’s Product Centre at Altona, and was developed in collaboration with Toyota team members in Thailand and Japan.
Based on a “Cyber Sumo” design theme, the new HiLux immediately evokes an image of strength and modern style, matching the vehicle’s tough on and off-road capability.
With its striking slim-line headlights, sharp lines and completely redesigned front and rear ends, the new HiLux will be a standout on the road.
The new-look exterior design is matched with a completely overhauled interior which brings a significant uplift in modernity, comfort, technology and ergonomics.
Up front, the fully redesigned three-tiered dash sits flatter compared with the current HiLux to provide improved forward visibility, especially beneficial when off-roading.
All HiLux grades feature a new digital instrument cluster – 7.0-inch for WorkMate and SR grades and 12.3-inch on SR5 and above – while a new 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen display sitting above the centre console is standard on every variant.
The latest generation multimedia system offers compatibility with wireless Apple CarPlay®1 and Android Auto™2, embedded satellite navigation3 and voice command, and expanded Toyota Connected Services4 functionality.
A wider centre console improves amenity and rigidity, with a taller centre console storage lid that matches the height of the door armrest and can be slid forward to provide greater comfort for drivers.
Interior comfort has also been enhanced with newly developed front and rear seats, with up to eight-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support adjustment and leather-accented upholstery, depending on the grade5.
Sitting below the 12.3-inch touchscreen, the climate control panel of the new HiLux offers simple and intuitive use with large physical buttons or knobs that allow the driver to keep their eyes on the road ahead.
The steering wheel has also been redesigned offering improved ergonomics and an updated button layout, clearly grouped into three distinct zones – infotainment, audio and driver assistance – with a steering wheel heating function available on select grades.
All grades of the new HiLux, both in 4X2 and 4X4 configurations, are powered by Toyota’s venerable 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, producing maximum outputs of 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque when paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Variants fitted with a six-speed manual transmission develop a maximum 420Nm of torque.
Toyota’s 48-volt V-Active technology will also be standard on automatic double cab SR grades and above, offering exceptionally smooth stop-start functionality and an additional 8.5kW/65Nm of thrust when starting off.
The new HiLux also marks a significant milestone in the history of the legendary pick-up, with the introduction of the first-ever battery-electric powertrain aimed to help fleet and business customers reduce the tailpipe emissions of their light-commercial fleets.
Available in double-cab 4×4 SR and SR5 guise, BEV grades will be introduced in 2026 and will be underpinned with an electric motor on each axle, paired with a lithium-ion battery. Further details on the BEV powertrain will be revealed closer to its local launch in H1, 2026.
The significant surface-level changes to the HiLux continue under the skin, with the adoption of electric power steering which delivers improved feel, response and ease of use in all driving conditions.
Light and agile steering feel at low speeds combines with sure-footed high-speed stability, with fewer disturbances through the steering wheel when driving on rough roads.
Electric power steering also improves the functionality of the lane-keeping safety systems in the HiLux to help make driving safer on the open road.
Further improving driveability is a new two-tiered suspension tune with springs and dampers designed for either heavy-duty work or more comfort and adventure-oriented private use.
With a revised independent coil-sprung front and rigid axle leaf sprung rear suspension offered across the range, WorkMate and SR grades employ a spring and shock absorber tune geared toward heavy load carrying and towing, while SR5 and up uses different spring rates and suspension stroke to provide enhanced ride comfort for everyday use.
Excellent off-road prowess is one the hallmarks of the HiLux with 4×4 grades using a part-time system with high and low range ratios. This has been further enhanced on the new model with the standard fitment of a rear locking differential and the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) traction control system on automatic SR 4×4 grades and above.
This sophisticated MTS system underwent substantial tuning and refinement by Toyota Australia’s vehicle evaluation team to handle the country’s harsh and varied terrain.
Automatic double cab pickup SR5 grades and up add the Multi-Terrain Monitor6, which uses a suite of cameras around the vehicle to offer drivers a range of views of the vehicle’s surroundings and underbody, along with the placement of the wheels to allow for safe navigation of difficult obstacles.
Multiple refinements to the HiLux ladder-frame platform help improve comfort, rigidity and crash performance, including new hydraulic engine mounts and shear-type cabin mounts which reduce vibrations and enhance ride comfort.
Front suspension tower thickness has been increased to accommodate the new electric power steering with the number of fitting bolts increased from three to four, while two frontal frame cross members have also been revised.
Frontal crash performance has been improved with newly designed front rail extensions made to improve impact absorption.
Active safety technology has also been enhanced with the adoption of the latest Toyota Safety Sense driver-assistance technology suite, which is standard across the range.
This includes Toyota’s pre-collision safety autonomous emergency braking system, active cruise control, lane departure alert, lane trace assist, road sign assist (speed signs only) and auto high beam.
Other standard safety features include blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and, on pick-up grades, front and rear parking sensors.6
The new HiLux is also the first Toyota to feature a new cabin detection alert system, which uses a radar to detect passengers in the rear seats and notify the occupants when exiting the vehicle.
Along with the significant technology upgrades in the new HiLux, Toyota has also extended the functionality of its Toyota Connected Services technology, that offers a range of safety and convenience functions that are accessible through a smartphone app.4
More details including local specification and pricing will be revealed closer to the new model’s arrival in Australia.

2025 TGRA GR CUP season set for exciting finish at Sandown in November.
The 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) GR CUP season is nearing its conclusion after another exciting round of racing at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
The star of the weekend was Brock Stinson who narrowly missed out on recording a perfect round with two wins and a second place; foiled by Pip Casabene in the final race who achieved the first win of his TGRA CR CUP career.
As has become the norm in the TGRA GR CUP, spectators were treated to an action-packed Race 1 on Saturday, with a captivating contest on the tight Gold Coast circuit resulting in multiple exciting manoeuvres and overtakes.
Lincoln Taylor, who entered the round in 2nd place on the championship standings, was the fastest driver in Race 1 but a seven-second penalty saw him drop all the way to 18th, with Stinson recording his first race win of the season ahead of Zane Rinaldi and championship leader Oliver Wickham.
On Sunday, Race 2 started the way Race 1 finished, with more wall-to-wall action and constant jostling. Among the close battle, Stinson managed to separate himself from the pack and ended up winning comfortably, finishing with a five-second lead over Pip Casabene, who recorded his first TGRA GR CUP podium, and Rinaldi, who never left the podium across the weekend’s three races.
Race 3 proved to be an exciting battle between Stinson and Casabene, with Casabene taking the lead at the start of the race before Stinson took it back and led for the majority of the race.
In his first year racing in the TGRA GR CUP, Casabene remained determined and took back the lead on the final lap to take the first win of his career in the format ahead of Stinson and Rinaldi, showcasing the kind of tight contest provided by TGRA GR CUP drivers.
Other strong performances over the round came from William Seal who was unlucky not to stand on the podium, never dropping below 5th place in all three races, and Jett Murray, who moved up to 2nd in the championship standings.
Guest drivers Chris Pither and Warren Luff joined the crew of regular racers for the round, with the latter also pulling double duty as the driver of the new GR Supra Supercar which was showcased for fans ahead of its debut in the 2026 Supercars Championship.
The final round of the 2025 TGRA GR CUP will take place in Melbourne at the Sandown 500 from November 14-16.
