The 2025 season of the TGRA GR CUP racing series is set to get underway this weekend at the NTI Townsville 500 Supercars event, promising the start of five rounds of hard-fought and highly competitive racing for up-and-coming race drivers.
Following a close-run finish to the 2024 season, the 2025 TGRA GR CUP will see 32 drivers compete at some of the most iconic racetracks in Australia in the one-make series behind the wheel of the GR86 coupe.
The first race of 2025 comes after the season launch at Sydney Motorsport Park on April 30, with the GR CUP one of the premiere support categories for a further four Supercars Championship rounds at Ipswich, Bathurst, Gold Coast and the season finale at Sandown.
The 2025 grid will see some familiar faces return including 2024 season runner-up James Lodge, and top-10 placeholders Brock Stinson, Clay Richards and Lachlan Gibbons.
GR CUP entrants will be competing for a $50,000 first prize that was won last year by Max Geoghegan, who has graduated to the Super2 racing series for 2025.
New entrants on the 2025 grid include multiple graduates from the TGRA Scholarship Series, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia’s second-tier entry-level race series.
So far, after four of the five events in the 2025 TGRA Scholarship season, drivers Zane Rinaldi and Kade Davey, who are also competing in this year’s GR CUP are tied at the top of leaderboard on 858 points, with fellow GR CUP driver Alice Buckley close behind at 852—setting the stage for an exciting finish to the season at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park in South Australia in August.
Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer Vin Naidoo wished all the contestants well for the 2025 season.
“Last year’s TGRA GR CUP was a sensational demonstration of exciting, competitive and closely contested racing, which for a number of racers helped them take the next step in their motorsport career,” Mr Naidoo said.
“The 2025 season promises to continue where last year left off, providing fans and drivers alike with thrilling racing on some of Australia’s most famous circuits.
“On behalf of Toyota Australia, I’d like to wish every driver and their team all the best for what will be a very exciting TGRA GR CUP season.”
