Toyota Australia has continued its strong first half of 2025 with its best-ever sales result for May, recording 23,576 new vehicle sales for the month, of which more than 10,000 were Toyota hybrids.
The record sales performance was led by the HiLux with 4952 units, followed by Australia’s favourite SUV, the RAV4 hybrid, which notched up 4002 new registrations.
RAV4 has carried its sales momentum over from 2024 when it sold a record 58,718 units, playing an important role in helping Toyota Australia to deliver over 118,000 hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) for the calendar year.
The continued popularity of Toyota hybrid technology was underscored by hybrid vehicles accounting for 10,734 deliveries last month, with the Corolla, Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross and Kluger all registering over 1000 hybrid sales in May.
Nearly half (45.6 per cent) of Toyota Australia sales in the record-breaking month were HEVs, with an electrified share of 46.2 per cent when accounting for sales of the bZ4X battery electric vehicle.
Toyota’s new-generation LandCruiser Prado has picked up where its predecessor left off with 2732 sales, making it the second most popular SUV in Australia year-to-date behind the RAV4.
The flagship LandCruiser 300 Series also had its strongest sales performance of 2025 with 1898 units sold, while the combined LandCruiser family – comprising LandCruiser Prado, LandCruiser 300 Series and LandCruiser 70 Series – contributed 5777 sales overall.
Toyota Australia’s May performance was its strongest so far this calendar year, and its combined year-to-date figure of 100,751 units places it ahead of the 100,398 units recorded to the same point in 2024.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the record month was a testament to the teamwork and collaboration of Toyota’s sales and dealership network and the strength of Toyota’s extensive range of passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles.
“A monthly sales record is a fantastic achievement by our valued dealers and sales teams, who are coming off a record year in 2024,” Mr Hanley said.
“Toyota is proud to highlight the invaluable connection our extensive dealer network has with their communities and customers.
“This relationship significantly enhances the strength of the Toyota brand, extending well beyond our exceptional product lineup.
“Our competitive advantage lies in our ability to serve customers across the length and breadth of this country, thanks to our dedicated dealer network.
“Importantly, our Toyota dealers are not just points of sale; they are integral parts of their communities, providing personalised service and fostering long-lasting relationships with customers.
